Jewelry Care
All Caelestis Jewelry is made with 925 sterling silver.
Sterling Silver tarnishes naturally over time due to the elements outdoors, such as; moisture, different gases and certain excretion's from the skin (eg. salt) which cause a blackening and dulling of the brilliance of the silver. In order to take the best care possible and keep your sterling shining brightly, there are a few things you can do to help prevent this tarnishing;
- Remove your jewelry when going into the ocean and chlorinated water. If you do swim with your piece on, rinsing it off with warm water when you are finished is a good idea.
- Remove your jewelry when doing household chores. Substances with additional sulfer like chlorine, perspiration and rubber will accelerate corrosion and tarnishing.
- Put your jewelry on last. Lotions, makeup, hairspray and perfume will accelerate tarnishing, so putting your pieces on last can help avoid this.
- Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place.
Other factors that cause tarnishing.. but are generally unavoidable?
-
Direct sunlight. (Short periods of time are fine but if you're laying out in the sun for hours or swimming, you can save your jewelry quality by popping it off before.)
-
Humid climates. When you live in a tropical climate, tarnishing happens a lot faster because of the higher amounts of salt in the air from the ocean and higher levels of moisture in the air. Storing your jewelry in an airtight box or in an air conditioned space can help slow this acceleration, however, investing in a good silver tarnishing polish and polishing cloth is your best chance at keeping your silver looking pristine.
Silver Tarnish Polish
Sometimes, no matter your prevention method, tarnishing still happens. Investing in a good silver tarnish polish is a great way to ensure your silver is looking pristine all the time. There are many effective polishing products and methods on the market to choose from. And don't forget a good polishing cloth too. They go hand in hand ;)
